The Itinerant Poetry Library

Since May 2006, The Itinerant Poetry Librarian has been travelling the world with a library of ‘Lost & Forgotten’ poetry, installing the library & librarian and archiving the sounds, poems and poetry of the cities, peoples and countries she meets. Welcome to the project's blog . . . Our Itinerant Poetry Librarian lives wherever her library is - come join the cause!

FAQs: • Yes we carry our entire life and the library with us as we go • Yes, it is quite heavy • No, we're not mad. As Charles Simic said, 'But what if poets are not crazy?' That's the spirit boyo!

We exist to: remind people of the importance of free public libraries...subvert mainstream channels of distribution...remind people that access to knowledge should be free and not dependent upon economic wealth hierarchies... show people that poetry/art can provide answers to questions we ask of life...experiment in existing outside of 'the market' – thereby, instead, investing in social capital, social innovation and community.

We aim to make life taste better. Word.

Where have we been . . . ?

Coming to another place near you soon . . .

OHMYGOD. It's the jackpot chickaddies! A whole 2 library installations in different venues within 24 hours. Wow. It's like our EU tour all over again, except this time we are not currently desperately trying to locate a bed within 12 hours, forage for cheese sandwiches behind the closed market in Barcelona near the Ramblas, and have yet to meet an American poet who has fallen from a 5 story building and lived to tell the tale. Hey! If that's you: come along and sign up for the library! We left this last US poet guy on crutches in Prague [Eric, we hope you made it dude]. So. As well as Dog Eared books on Thursday (see post below), our latest assignation is Adobe Books.

Our Itinerant Poetry Librarian will be there and rarin' to go on Friday 23rd February from 7pm 'til close. It's at 3166 16th Street, between Valencia and Guerrero (ooh here's a map or you can even call 'em on 415.864.3936). Or go click on our downloadable Google Map over in the sidebar thattaway------> and get all ye olde librarian where we been and where we goin' to honey places in one go. Bitchin!
